What wellness-focused nurse practitioner care means for you:

Lab results

that lead to actual treatment, not just “talk to your doctor”

Medical insight

that aligns with your nutrition goals

Hormone support,

metabolic care, and chronic disease management alongside your nutrition counseling

A team approach

where your dietitian and nurse practitioner collaborate on your behalf

Why We Added a Nurse Practitioner to Our Team

Health is rarely one-dimensional.

Your hormones affect your blood sugar. Your blood sugar affects your energy and mood. Your gut health influences everything from inflammation to mental clarity.

We’ve watched our dietitians order important labs only to have clients struggle to get follow-up care from overwhelmed primary care providers who don’t specialize in nutrition-related conditions.

We’ve wished for more eating disorder informed primary care settings and providers to send our clients struggling with an eating disorder to.

We’ve seen clients seeking GLP-1 medications turn to impersonal online services with zero nutritional support.

We’ve talked with perimenopausal women who don’t know where to start when symptoms interfere with both their health and their relationship with food.

Adding nurse practitioner services to our range of support here at The Tasty Balance closes these gaps.

Now, when your nutrition journey requires medical intervention, our nurse practitioner can:

  • Order and interpret labs in the context of your nutrition goals
  • Prescribe and monitor medications when appropriate
  • Provide hormone support and metabolic health management
  • Coordinate care between your dietitian and medical provider
  • Offer mental health medication referrals and support
  • Create treatment plans that are realistic, sustainable, and aligned with your values

This is specialized wellness-based nurse practitioner support that works hand-in-hand with your nutrition care.

Meet Claire Stinson, DNP, APRN, FNP-C

NURSE PRACTITIONER AT THE TASTY BALANCE

Claire is our Kansas City-based nurse practitioner with a background in family medicine and primary care. She joined The Tasty Balance because she believes healthcare should feel collaborative, not transactional.

Her approach as a wellness-focused nurse practitioner:

Listen first, educate thoroughly, and treat the whole person, not just symptoms on a chart.

What clients say about working with our nurse practitioner:

Empathetic. Attentive. Collaborative. Compassionate. Encouraging. Never stops learning.

As a nurse practitioner, Claire specializes in metabolic health, women’s health concerns, chronic disease prevention and management, and nutrition-related medical support. She believes that with the right guidance and support, you can feel more at home in your body and more confident managing your health.

Claire sees clients ages 10+ in Kansas (both in-person at our Kansas City office and virtually).

Due to state licensure regulations, clients must be physically located in Kansas at the time of their appointment.

How Our In-house Nurse Practitioner Can Help

Claire provides wellness-focused nurse practitioner care for chronic health conditions and concerns that intersect with nutrition. Explore some of her specialities below to learn more about how she can help move you forward.

Struggling with prediabetes, insulin resistance, or metabolic syndrome? Our nurse practitioner can order appropriate labs, interpret results in context, and create treatment plans that work alongside your nutrition goals, including medication when beneficial.

Hot flashes, irregular periods, sleep disruption, mood changes, weight shifts — perimenopause and menopause affect your whole body. Our nurse practitioner offers hormone support, symptom management, and treatment options tailored to your experience.

High blood pressure and cholesterol require both lifestyle changes and sometimes medication. Our nurse practitioner monitors these conditions, prescribes when appropriate, and coordinates with your nutrition plan.

Anxiety and depression often intersect with eating patterns and physical health. While our nurse practitioner doesn’t provide therapy, Claire can prescribe appropriate medications and help coordinate mental health care with your nutrition support.

When your dietitian identifies potential deficiencies through labs or symptoms, our nurse practitioner can prescribe appropriate supplementation and monitor your response.

Whether you’re newly diagnosed or managing long-term diabetes, Claire provides medical monitoring, medication management, and lab interpretation while your dietitian supports the nutrition side.

From PCOS and irregular cycles to hormonal imbalances affecting your relationship with food, Claire addresses the medical side of women’s health issues while collaborating with your dietitian on nutrition strategies.

Whether it’s lab monitoring, supporting specific diagnoses, facilitating a step up in level of care, or simply having a medical professional on the team who understands eating disorders, Claire helps ensure our clients receive comprehensive, coordinated care.

You know something feels “off,” but your doctor says your labs are “normal.” As a holistic-focused nurse practitioner, Claire takes time to investigate symptoms, order comprehensive testing, and look at the full picture of your health.

Our Process

How does this work?

1. Book Your Initial Appointment

New to The Tasty Balance? Schedule a 1-hour initial nurse practitioner consultation where Claire will learn your complete health history and goals.

Already working with a Tasty Balance dietitian? Book a 30-minute nurse practitioner appointment (or 1 hour for GLP-1 or hormone replacement therapy consultations).

2. Comprehensive Health Assessment

During your nurse practitioner appointment, Claire will spend time understanding your health history and current concerns, lab results and health markers, medications, previous treatments, health goals, and more.

Depending on your needs, Claire will conduct a thorough nurse practitioner assessment and often order lab work to get a complete picture of what’s happening in your body.

3. Personalized Treatment Plan

You’ll work together with our nurse practitioner using shared decision-making to create an individualized plan.

For clients ages 0–18, we ask that an adult attend the initial visit. Claire will then discuss what’s appropriate for follow-up sessions.

4. Ongoing Support

If you’re taking medication prescribed by our nurse practitioner, regular follow-ups are required for safe monitoring, typically ranging from monthly to every 6 months depending on the medication and your progress.

Your treatment plan isn’t one-size-fits-all. Claire adjusts based on your lab results, how you’re feeling, and what’s working (or not working) in your real life.

Looking for more GLP-1 Information?

Our Nurse Practitioner’s Approach to GLP-1 Medications

Health First, Always

GLP-1 medications (like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound) have entered mainstream conversation primarily for weight loss. But these medications were developed decades ago to treat diabetes. And research now shows they offer benefits far beyond the number on a scale.

Disclaimer: At The Tasty Balance, we value health at every size.

We believe in wellness-based nurse practitioner care that prioritizes metabolic health, muscle preservation, cardiovascular wellness, and mental health… not aesthetics or quick fixes.

That’s why our nurse practitioner can offer GLP-1 medications while staying true to our values. Patients will be screened for any disordered eating patterns past or present.

How Our Nurse Practitioner’s GLP-1 Care Is Different

If you’ve looked into GLP-1 options, you’ve probably seen online services offering prescriptions with minimal oversight, no body composition tracking, and little nutritional support. That’s not how our nurse practitioner approaches this.

When our nurse practitioner prescribes a GLP-1, you receive:

Comprehensive health assessment

We evaluate your metabolic health, medical history, and whether this medication truly aligns with your health goals

Regular body composition monitoring (every 8-12 weeks)

Preserving muscle mass isn’t optional. Our nurse practitioner tracks this closely to ensure weight changes benefit your metabolic health

Coordinated nutrition support

GLP-1s are only one-third of the treatment plan. Adequate protein intake and strength training are equally important, which is why we strongly recommend working with one of our dietitians

Lab monitoring

Regular, personalized lab work ensures the medication is improving your health markers, not just changing your weight

Ongoing medical oversight

Side effect management, dose adjustments, and regular check-ins with our nurse practitioner

FDA-approved medications only

Our nurse practitioner does not prescribe compounded GLP-1s due to safety and quality concerns

Is Nurse Practitioner GLP-1 Care Right for You?

GLP-1 medications aren’t appropriate for everyone, and that’s okay. Through shared decision-making at your initial nurse practitioner visit, you and Claire will determine together whether this treatment aligns with your health goals.

Your initial nurse practitioner GLP-1 consultation includes:

If GLP-1 therapy is a good fit, your medication can be prescribed by our nurse practitioner the same day.

Nurse Practitioner GLP-1 Frequently Asked Questions

At your initial visit, Claire will spend an hour with you discussing your weight and health history, your family history, your current health status, your diet and eating habits, your exercise and activity level, your hormone and menstrual history, your mental and emotional health, and social and environmental factors that contribute to your wellbeing. Using shared decision-making you will together determine with Claire if GLP-1 therapy is a good fit for you. If so, your medication will be prescribed the same day as your appointment.

Every 8-12 weeks for body composition monitoring, side effect management, and dose adjustments as needed.

No. Compounded versions are not FDA-approved and are made using bulk pharmaceutical ingredients that may lack consistent potency or safety testing. Our nurse practitioner only prescribes FDA-approved GLP-1 medications because they undergo rigorous testing, quality control, and ongoing surveillance—making them the safer, more reliable option.

Unlikely, unless you have diabetes. Most insurance plans don’t yet cover GLP-1s for metabolic health or weight management. Self-pay prices have decreased significantly since these medications first entered the market, making them more accessible. You can always contact your insurance to ask about coverage criteria for your specific plan.

Regular body composition monitoring will be an essential part of GLP-1 therapy. Preserving muscle mass is essential to weight loss that benefits your metabolic health. Lab work, personalized to your health goals, will be done at regular intervals. Nutritional support with one of our dietitians is highly recommended while on GLP-1 therapy to ensure you are fueling your body well and meeting protein requirements to preserve muscle mass.
